How to set holiday and special hours on your Google Business Profile

Who is this guide for?

Owners and managers who already have a verified Business Profile and whose hours change around holidays. By the end, you will have special hours saved for the holidays that matter to your business, so customers see the right hours on Google Search and Maps.

When should you use special hours?

  1. Know when to use special hours. You can set special hours if your business temporarily adjusts its hours or stays closed for up to 6 days in a row. They suit holidays, special events and other exceptional circumstances, and your regular hours do not change. Source: How to set Special hours, Google Business Profile Help. Checked October 24, 2026.
  2. Pick the dates. On the holidays Google lists, a warning may appear on your profile telling users your hours might differ. To let customers know your holiday hours, set special hours in advance for those dates. Google's US list for this season includes: Thanksgiving, November 26, 2026; Black Friday, November 27, 2026; Christmas Eve, December 24, 2026; Christmas, December 25, 2026; New Year's Eve, December 31, 2026; New Year's Day, January 1, 2027. Some states have extra holidays on the list, so check the page for your state. Source: About holidays on Google, Google Business Profile Help. Checked October 24, 2026.
  3. Confirm hours even when they match your regular hours. Google says it is a good idea to confirm your hours for official holidays, even if they are the same as your regular hours, because it makes clear to customers that your special hours are accurate. What if your hours run into the next day?

  1. If your hours run into the next day, split them. Google says a set of special hours can't exceed 24 hours, so break the hours into multiple sets: one set that runs until the end of the first day and one set that begins at midnight of the second day. On the second day, your regular hours are ignored in favor of the special hours, so include again any of that day's hours you want to keep. Google's worked example for this uses the spreadsheet format. Source: How to set Special hours, Google Business Profile Help. Checked October 24, 2026.

What if you will be closed for a week or more, or manage many locations?

  1. If you will be closed for 7 or more days in a row, or for an unknown length of time, do not use special hours. Mark the business as Temporarily closed instead. If you offer separate services with different times, such as senior hours or delivery and takeout hours, Google says to set More hours instead of special hours. 2. If you manage many locations, you can set special hours from the bulk upload spreadsheet. In the "Special hours" column, enter the affected days and their hours, using "x" for an all-day closure, in this format: YYYY-MM-DD: HH:MM-HH:MM (24 hour) or YYYY-MM-DD: HH:MM AM-HH:MM PM. Save and import the spreadsheet. If you are only adding special hours to existing businesses, include only the store code and special hours columns, because empty columns or columns with headings and no information will erase existing information. What does a set of holiday hours look like?

Sample (a made-up example, not a real business): Sample Hardware Co (Sample) is closed all day on November 26, 2026, open 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM on December 24, 2026, and closed on December 25, 2026. In the "Special hours" screen, the owner adds each date, checks "Closed" for the two closed days, unchecks "Closed" and enters 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM for the Christmas Eve date, then selects Save. The business name and hours are invented for illustration and describe no real business.
